We Are Dog Friendly

Bring Fido with you to the winery! You don't have to leave him at home, he'll love the road trip just as much as you!

Virginia's Dog Friendly Wineries

Puppy Love…we all experience it, and these days many more businesses welcome our canine companions.  Wineries are no exception to this happy development and several Virginia wineries (visit virginiawine.org) welcome your pup as a guest.  A leash is in order to safely bring your dog along on winery tours and tastings.

Some locations offer outdoor seating at their restaurants or picnic tables on the grounds where your pet can lounge tableside while you eat.  Or you could purchase cheese and snacks and wine (naturally!) and lay a blanket on the lawn for a picnic to round out a lazy afternoon. Many wineries are located in fairly remote locations and offer ample space for strolling around a bit and getting some fresh air and exercise to break up any long travels.  So, don’t forget your sneakers and a camera!
If you plan to take your pup on a winery visit, pack up your leash, some food and water, any necessary toys, and doggie clean-up items.  Some wineries provide plastic bags, but it’s best to be prepared.  The most regulatory thing you might run into is a waiver of liability naming the winery harmless from possible dog incidents.
Remember to call ahead to be sure your dog is welcome on the property, in the tasting room and at other locations on the site. Virginiawine.org has a listing of pet friendly wineries using their Find Wineries box then click on Pet Friendly. To date there are 83 wineries that are dog friendly.  We hope to see you at all of them!
As one of Virginia’s oldest wineries, Chateau Morrisette has always been dog friendly to visitors; some of us even bring our dogs with us to work!
